Enrolment guidelines This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list. The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee Learning objectives The student will obtain skills to: 1) Write a project description/protocol for a systematic review a) Formulate research questions to be answered by a systematic review (PICO) b) Develop and carry out the search strategy for the systematic review c) Sort the found articles according to titles and abstracts and develop a trial profile d) Assessment of quality in the individual study and across the body of evidence (GRADE) 2) Critically read and evaluate a systematic review 3) Identify the type of research method, participants, interventions and outcome measurements used in a scientific paper The student will obtain knowledge of: 1. Extraction and management of data 2. Statistical analyses (metaanalyses) 3. Heterogeneity 4. Subgroup/sensitivity analyses 5. Dissemination and implementation of results in clinical practice Content The Systematic Review has become an integrated part of all PhD thesis at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences; either as a part of their introduction and discussion or as an individual paper. The objective of the course is therefore to give the participants skills regarding the planning and construction of a systematic review. The participants will be trained in reading and writing a systematic review, including presentation of methods and principles for establishment of a protocol, primarily according to Cochrane criteria, critical evaluation of the reviews, meta- and subgroup analysis. The participants will discuss the implementation of the conclusions derived from the systematic review in their clinical setting including patient perspective.Describe the course curriculum in terms of scientific topics covered.
